It was the summer and looked like it would be a beautiful weekend,
so we decided to venture into the city and maybe see a play on Saturday.
We began on Friday night by taking a few pictures of Ben using the
waterproof case for the digital camera to see if there
was a difference. He seemed unable to keep his eyes opened
IMG_0040
IMG_0041
without some external help
IMG_0042
but the penny module
IMG_0043
shone brightly as we thought of getting acrylic cement to make it
whole forever.
Saturday morning, we parked
IMG_0044
at the station and observed the crowds
IMG_0045
in both directions
IMG_0046
as Suzanne
IMG_0047
and Ben
IMG_0048
pondered the journey ahead. Once in New York, we escaped the train
IMG_0049
and went up the steps
IMG_0050
to begin our walk north stopping for this obligatory phone booth picture
IMG_0051
and this obligatory phone booth picture
IMG_0052
before celebrating the WNBA all star game
IMG_0053
and watching the painter
IMG_0054
as the Ernst and Young building
IMG_0055
came into view before another obligatory phone booth construction
IMG_0056
picture which amused Suzanne
IMG_0057
and Benjamin
IMG_0058
as the Tkts booth
IMG_0059
came into view and got closer
IMG_0060
so that George M. Cohan
IMG_0061
could welcome us along with this gentleman
IMG_0062
from the Afghani restaurant. Benjamin
IMG_0063
studied the fan and then used it
IMG_0064
to cool his passion about the chocolate store up the road
IMG_0065
as the pigeons
IMG_0066
did injustice to George.
Times Square
IMG_0067
seemed to be the destination of the Nuts 4 Nuts
IMG_0068
man as this woman
IMG_0069
walked in front of the steel drummers
IMG_0070
who were entertaining us as Father Duffy
IMG_0071
oversaw things and the umbrella room
IMG_0072
aimed to nourish us as the line moved and we got closer to the
chocolate store
IMG_0073
while this girl's shirt
IMG_0074
had one of my key phrases and this sign
IMG_0075
said it all about what we were spending as another obligatory phone booth
picture
IMG_0076
wound us to the front of the line
IMG_0077
where Ben got very focused
IMG_0078
and so we could get our tickets, take a final obligatory phone booth picture
IMG_0079
and check out the theater
IMG_0080
as we headed to Joe Allen's
IMG_0081
the restaurant Steven Just had recommended. After studying the menu
IMG_0082
we went in but the darkness made Ben
IMG_0083
hard to see though the menu
IMG_0084
gave a map
IMG_0085
that made Suzanne
IMG_0086
happy with her choices as we took the condiments
IMG_0087
picture and checked back to see if Ben
IMG_0088
was brighter. The bread came
IMG_0089
along with Ben's burger
IMG_0090
Suzanne's chicken salad with
IMG_0091
and without flash
IMG_0092
and my taboulleh salad
IMG_0093
which shone brighter than the picture can tell. Ben brightened with his
food
IMG_0094
and this collection sign
IMG_0095
was a classic in the phone booth sized men's room.
Now it was time to march back to the chocolate store
IMG_0096
IMG_0097
and look in the windows
IMG_0098
before going in
IMG_0099
and scouting out
IMG_0100
the chocolates
IMG_0101
the kisses
IMG_0102
IMG_0103
IMG_0104
in different flavors, the Reese's
IMG_0105
IMG_0106
IMG_0107
IMG_0108
IMG_0109
and the little Hershey's men
IMG_0110
before settling on our purchases
IMG_0111
facing the camera
IMG_0112
and heading off past the alien
IMG_0113
the Stardust diner
IMG_0114
and the Big Apple chess set
IMG_0115
to get ready
IMG_0116
for the time of our life which the play really was.
After the play,w e found the Foot Locker
IMG_0117
and found our way across the street
IMG_0118
to replace these shoes
IMG_0119
IMG_0120
in the right size
IMG_0121
with various choices
IMG_0122
IMG_0123
that might work. But first we had to measure Ben's
foot size
IMG_0124
before we could pick these shoes
IMG_0125
to Suzanne's amusement
IMG_0126
and continue on our journey.
Our next stop was Toys R Us where we were met with Yu-Gi-Oh
IMG_0127
before we found this birthday present for Andy
IMG_0128
and then explored
IMG_0129
and found dinosaurs
IMG_0130
IMG_0131
and GI Joe
IMG_0132
in the darkened interior before another Yu-Gi-Oh
IMG_0133
a long look around
IMG_0134
farewell to CandyLand
IMG_0135
and goodbye to Sponge Bob
IMG_0136
set us on our way south. We looked at the subway
IMG_0137
and got it straight
IMG_0138
but decided that the sewing man
IMG_0139
and needle and button
IMG_0140
were the fashion we needed to get us to Pennsylvania Station.
Once there, we got drinks
IMG_0141
and noted that the snapple
IMG_0142
had a lid
IMG_0143
IMG_0144
that said New York because we were in New York. My bagel
IMG_0145
Ben's turkey sandwich
IMG_0146
and Suzanne's soft serve
IMG_0147
were good but when we saw Krispy Kreme
IMG_0148
we knew we had to have the bag
IMG_0149
without the flash
IMG_0150
and get this kreme filled
IMG_0151
which made Benjamin
IMG_0152
very excited on the train ride home.
In all, another happy family day in the Big Apple.
