It was time to get to the outside world and see the characters who make it great (and enjoy wearing PU hats).

I began by bringing my rental car IMG_1591 with this license plate IMG_1592 to the garage at UW and made my way to Ed Lazowska's office. We went for a walk around the campus and met his executive VP IMG_1593 who seemed to be sweating about over runs in their new building IMG_1594 IMG_1595 which didn't seem to be over-running to me though I was glad we didn't have to go onto the walkways in the old EE building.

After this elegant lunch IMG_1596 Ed posed IMG_1597 with the hat and then with the father of our country IMG_1598 after whom the university was named. And the state for that matter.

For some reason, I was asleep at the switch and so missed the opportunity to catch Rich Tong in his new hat. That will have to wait for the next trip. Maybe I was thinking about this wonderful neon sign IMG_1599 that we would pass on the way to dinner. My salad IMG_1600 looked better than this and Jane's salad IMG_1601 looked exactly like this. We each had the same main course but the difference between my photo IMG_1602 and hers IMG_1603 can be attributed either to the fork in the picture or maybe to the angle at which the flash executed.

The next day, Chris Larsen IMG_1604 came to watch me eat this breakfast IMG_1605 as Jane IMG_1606 watched and ate her fruit.

After a picture of the Mariners shop across the street IMG_1607 and a few street scenes IMG_1608 IMG_1609 and some flags pictures IMG_1610 IMG_1611 reminding us that it was 9/11, it was time to head to the headquarters of Amazon.com IMG_1612 where this woman IMG_1613 was nice enough to give us badges so that we could go see Jeff IMG_1614 Some camera manipulations led to these multiple pictures of me with the company founder IMG_1615 then the president IMG_1616 then the CEO IMG_1617 then the chairman IMG_1618 and finally the inspirational leader. IMG_1619 Jane posed with Elizabeth IMG_1620 her counterpart in the organization. After driving to Avis rental return at SeaTac IMG_1621 and getting a receipt from this gentleman IMG_1622 we were off to San Jose.

Our first stop was to see Phil Goldman IMG_1623 who eased into the frame IMG_1624 as he told us all about his new endeavor. We left him for dinner with the Warmenhovens IMG_1625 IMG_1626 though Charmaine being not a hat person held her hat for the photos. After one last stop IMG_1627 we were ready for the long ride back to the hotel so that we could debrief on the day.

The next morning, Jane IMG_1628 posed at Buck's to allow me to check my camera for the picture of my breakfast IMG_1629 and the breakfast IMG_1630 of Eric Schmidt IMG_1631 who seems delighted with his job situation.

My work done, I headed to the international headquarters of Ductus IMG_1632 where the friendly employees IMG_1633 were my next hat picture. After some drink IMG_1634 I could aim the camera better IMG_1635 and so was ready for falafel lunch IMG_1636 with Jacobo IMG_1637 before we headed to the shoreline to watch the pelicans IMG_1638 and see the bigger picture. IMG_1639 Jacobo returned me to Jane IMG_1640 who was happy to see us back in time to capture one last hat picture IMG_1641 before the journey was done.
