It was Saint Patrick's weekend and the start of our spring breaks, so Suzanne and I decided to spend a few days in New York getting a break from our daily lives. Sarah P3161906 was on the phone and so hardly noticed. Claire P3161907 seemed ok with the idea. Jane P3161908 was happy to finish her book as Jess P3161909 burned a CD ROM and Suzanne P3161910 read the newspaper. Meanwhile, Meredith and Ben P3161911 were playing indoor balloon volleyball over the chairs as Benjamin got revved up P3161912 for a slam.

Next thing, we knew, we were in New York looking at the Ernst and Young building P3161913 and Suzanne was conversing with the old Jewish tailor P3161914 who represented the garment industry. Along the way to the hotel, we passed these people buying green hats P3161915 and this mall based on Toys R Us P3161916 which is apparently not doing a good business.

We got to the hotel and took this white picture of the room P3161917 followed by this picture of the blue lights behind the bed P3161918 (no wonder they won the Interiors Magazine award!) and these pictures of the view -- across P3161919 and down. P3161920 This was the view from the door into our bedroom P3161921 and these were the waters P3161922 they left for us. Not to mention, the picture P3161923 on the living room wall and the sink P3161924 in the bathroom with the samples of lotions, potions, notions. P3161925

We left the hotel to walk to the theater P3161926 and got close enough P3161927 to see the reviews.

After the play, we went to Suzan Glazer's apartment for some hors d'ouveres P3161928 which caused Suzanne to put on her Saint Patrick's green P3161929 to match the napkins P3161930 and the famous Irish gefilte fish balls P3161931 and the champagne bottle P3161932 that we all signed. After a few group pictures P3161933 P3161934 P3161935 we headed to the restaurant where picture taking was not possible except for these obligatory photos of the signs in the bathroom P3161936 P3161937

Sunday morning, we woke up and headed over to the TKTS booth P3171938 where the statue of George M. Cohan P3171939 inspired Red forgot his last name to tell us that he was the most famous scalper, written up in the Washington Post, and that we would be lucky to get tickets to anything but Proof -- which was the show we wanted. P3171940 While we waited in line, New York's finest came by to pick up garbage P3171941 in front of Times Square P3171942 while we caught this philosophy from Rob Lowe P3171943 and watched the umbrella room man P3171944 head to work. The Coca Cola sign P3171945 stood guard as did Father Duffy P3171946 and the McDonald's P3171947 promised veggie burgers but we didn't check them out.

Once we had the tickets, we walked past the Allen Iverson shirt P3171948 to Gustavino's, the lunch restaurant P3171949 where they greeted us with these rolls P3171950 as we pondered the menu. P3171951 Suzanne seemed happy P3171952 especially once her Bloody Mary P3171953 arrived to the amusement of the waitress P3171954 who had never thought that someone might want to take pictures of the smoked salmon with caviar sandwich P3171955 and French toast P3171956 that she brought us. The coffee P3171957 tasted good from the silver serving piece P3171958 and creamer. P3171959 We passed on dessert P3171960 but I did want to record the trough in the men's room P3171961 which is fairly unique in my life. We recorded the 59th Street Bridge P3171962 which made us feel groovy and marched on. On the way back across town, we saw the church with the Irish flag (what could be more appropriate on March 17) P3171963 and this man P3171964 who proposed to save us. Down the street was the marquee for the play P3171965 but we had to stop at Medieval Times P3171966 before we could enter. P3171967

Dinner Sunday night was at Hongwei, a unique eating experience P3171968 with their drink menu P3171969 We began with porridge P3171970 accompanied by this Korean beer P3171971 and followed by ginseng salad. P3171972 At this point in the meal, the neighbors offered to take our picture, so I took theirs. P3171973 They seemed amused that we would take pictures of our food but what could you expect from a group of epidemiologists. Back to eating, the next course was stuffed persimmons with vegetable cake that was delicious (according to Suzanne). P3171974 The next appetizer was pancakes with assorted vegetables P3171975 and sauce (a la moo shu ... ). Then came the grilled tofu P3171976 and steamboat soup P3171977 fit for an emperor with walnut and dried cherries in it. The main courses were grilled root (or something) P3171978 and stuffed portabello P3171979 accompanied by kim che served both spiced (on the right) and unspiced P3171980 and multigrain rice. P3171981 This sign in the bathroom described the meal ( eating is holy ) P3171982 and then there was the collection sign. P3171983

On the way back to the hotel, we walked past the set for the Today show P3171984 and decided not to come back to see Al Roker the next morning. The skaters P3171985 were active as we headed onward. This sign P3171986 told the story of New York and of our weekend together as Suzanne tried to find the Algonquin P3171987 and this billboard P3171988 offered an opinion about HP + Compaq.

The next morning, we went to the train station P3181989 and recorded this harsh sign P3181990 while I missed the signage in my camera view P3181991 while recording the bridge plate P3181992 and then getting the signage right. P3181993
