Pictures of 11.09.02 -- A weekend in the country

Suzanne and I decided to spend a weekend away. It was no less than wonderful. We went to Evermay on the Delaware. Somehow, we forgot to take pictures of dinner on Friday night ( what were we thinking? ). Fortunately, we had recovered by breakfast on Saturday when we recorded the orange juice ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2029 pineapple fruit cup ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2030 coffee ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2031 pastries ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2032 cheese ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2033 and granola ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2034 that made up the morning's continental breakfast. After eating, we were able to make it all the way to dinner with only the afternoon tea break. The pastries were no better than OK with some better than others but the fruits were very good.
After breakfast, we needed to prepare for the day ahead -- a very beautiful day. We photographed the sign ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2035 and the Inn ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2036 just in case we got lost in our travels. We also recorded the river in front of the hotel with the cataract ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2037 and distance view ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2038 so we could swim our way back if necessary. Someone was getting a delivery ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2039 despite the early hour ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2040 which meant our bed hadn't been made ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2041 and our room ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2042 hadn't been cleaned. I did take an excellent self portrait ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2043 except for flash interference.
We followed the sign ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2044 and were sure to meet the weight limit ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2045 so that we could take our walk on the canal ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2046 while meeting the rules. ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2047 These people have bad political views ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2048 but we didn't let the air out of their tires. The map ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2049 pointed the way as we walked by the bird house ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2050 and saw the berries ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2051 but didn't eat any. Suzanne decided to take some phone calls ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2052 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2053 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2054 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2055 as we headed along our way ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2056 towards the golf course ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2057 where the dog people ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2058 were watching the beautiful trees ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2059 as we approached hole #13 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2060 and recorded the pin ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2061 much to the amusement of this bug ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2062 in the road.
As we went along, the reflections of trees in the canal ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2063 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2064 were impressive as were the trees ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2065 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2066 in the distance. This man was tending his garden ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2067 as we caught our first view of the covered bridge ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2068 in the distance and across from the Boathouse ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2069 which was either an inn or someone's house or a genuine boat house. This was the magic sign ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2070 that told us to turn by the house ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2071 of the unusual people. As the bridge neared ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2072 we got our directions ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2073 and left the tow path ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2074 past the weird house with colors ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2075 and a funny sign ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2076 and many signs of protest ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2077 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2078 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2079 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2080 that seemed to deal with local issues we did not understand. We also didn't understand why the underwear ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2081 was hanging. On closer inspection, the covered bridge ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2082 looked even better inspiring Suzanne to take all of these pictures ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2083 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2084 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2085 of me. As we walked down the road ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2086 we saw the bridge ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2087 and then got to it ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2088 and after paying attention to the builders ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2089 made our way across the state line ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2090 to Frenchtown where there was a mirror of the path ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2091 we had followed to get here. Frenchtown has many stores. From the Wooden Nickel ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2092 we captured this street scene ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2093 as the girl scouts across the street ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2094 got ready to accost passersby. The sidewalk had an interesting tiling pattern ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2095 that I should send to Branko Grunbaum. The Book Garden ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2096 had a remarkable lack of books ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2097 even as we saw their nice sign. Down the road was the sign ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2098 showing the way home. The Frenchtown Cafe ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2099 got good marks from the NYTimes but the odor of the place didn't draw us in. I did like the statues ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2100 as Suzanne emerged from Garbo and Sasha ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2101 having visited Pardon my French ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2102 already. The bike riders ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2103 were getting ready to depart. We went into a store and took frog pictures of the little one ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2104 the picture frames ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2105 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2106 and the bag ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2107 that doubled as a toiletries kit. We eventually stopped at Greco's ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2108 but first took an elevation picture ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2109 and noted the garbage cans ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2110 but didn't use them. Suzanne liked the store ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2111 as I checked out the Inn ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2112 looked across the bridge ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2113 recorded the fire escape ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2114 and considered the bridge ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2115 as a way to escape the attacking girl scouts ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2116 but decided to duck into Alchemy ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2117 instead of sliding down the drainage sewer ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2118 that was outside. Now we had our drinks from Greco's -- mine ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2119 and Suzanne's ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2120 and so we were ready to leave town but first we had to record the vital statistics ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2121 and make sure we could follow the rules ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2122 on both sides ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2123 of the bridge.
This was the road back to the canal ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2124 and these were the flowers Suzanne wanted to arrange ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2125 but we were distracted when the house of protest had another sign ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2126 so we marched on to see some beautiful trees ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2127 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2128 as the bicyclists claimed the trail ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2129 and Suzanne took these pictures of me ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2130 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2131 with grand scenery as these 2 photographers ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2132 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2133 decided to record the same scene. After the pipeline ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2134 we saw the Model T ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2135 and got a closeup ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2136 so that we could tell it was from 1922. The motorcycles were gathering ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2137 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2138 but we still found our way back to the Inn for tea ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2139 and to record the shower stall ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2140 there.
Dinner that night was at Tara's in Upper Black Eddy. Suzanne was happy ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2141 because the restaurant was less stiff and the wine ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2142 was good. These were the porcini gnocchi ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2143 ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2144 but the camera didn't deal well with color contrasts. Suzanne's salad ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2145 showed better than mine ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2146 but her main course ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2147 was not as spectacular as the vegetarian plate ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2148 all of which I ate except for the cauliflower ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2149 which almost looked good enough to try. Dessert was good ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2150 and a trip to the bathroom revealed this sign ../../../Sabbat/11.09-10.02AWeekendAway//IMG_2151 that could supposedly only be understood by Italians. Thanks to Jacobo, I know that this statement is not true.
