For our last day in Cairo, we went to the Egyptian Museum which was beautiful
but camera avers and then to Saqqara (aka Sakara) which has some of the oldest
tombs and the step pyramids.
These were pictures on the wall inside one of the graves

../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270002
The color is quite well preserved after almost 5000 years.
They also have phone booths
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270003
though I think these are probably a recent addition.
The step pyramid is quite a site
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270004
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270009
and made hills like this one
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270005
take on a new meaning.
Walking along the paths in the old city of the dead
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270006
was quite an experience because the crowds were small compared
to the area of the city. Of course, it was quite hot.
This guard
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270007
asked me to take his picture and then demanded baksheesh.
those of you viewing this should contribute to the
pound I had to pay him .
In the distance, across desert you could see the pyramids at Giza
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270008
We took a picture of one of the burial pits
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270010
but it was hard to see down 100 feet to the bottom.
Then, the outside of the tombs
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270011
and the wall of cobras
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270012
left us ready to drive to Memphis which we could see from a distance

In Memphis, the main attraction is the gigantic status of Ramses II.
Here are his head,

../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270027
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270028
his belt cartouche,
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270017
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270024
his chest engraving,
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270018
his good arm,
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270019
(notice the strong muscle)
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270033
his shoulder,
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270020
his bad leg,
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270025
his ear
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270034
the engraving of his wife in his leg
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270032
and his entire length
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270031
We took this picture towards Saqqara
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270029
and this in the outer yard
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270030
and these of the alabaster pyramid
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270035
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270036
Our last stop in Egypt was at Khan al Khalili, the bazaar (souk)
where these gentlemen
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270037
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270038
sold us some elegant T shirts and offered not enough camels for
my wife or children.
This man seemed to characterize our final warm feeling
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270040
as Suzanne left her last shopping excursion
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270041
and this guy said goodbye
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270039
At the airport, we took the obligatory phone booth pictures
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270042
../../../Sabbat/Pics/04.27.00Cairo//P4270043
where we were accused to taking pictures for phone
and even one of a mail box
