A day in Chianti

Family Sabbatical TravelItaly It was our first day in Tuscany and we decided to drive through the Chianti region. We saw this sign ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020001 and Benjamin and Jane jumped at the chance ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020002 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020004 to climb in the park. Suzanne watched ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020003 and Sarah stayed in the car ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020005 with the air conditioning on. This guy ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020006 stayed on the hill and watched us. There was a nice view of the city street ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020007 and of the hills it overlooked ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020008 We liked Strada especially when we found the obligatory phone booth ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020009 but pictures like this ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020010 made us wonder if it was ok for Benjamin to open his store ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020011 and have Suzanne as his customer.

Next we drove on to Greve. Our first view of the city was a takeoff on the old Scott McNealy expression. This duck ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020012 was eating lunch while waiting to be lunch for someone else. We saw Giovanni de Verrazzano ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020013 from the bridge of the same name. On the way to lunch, we captured ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020014 the phone booth of Greve. These people ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020022 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020023 were nice enough to make space for us ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020015 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020016 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020018 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020019 including Sarah who must have been very hungry ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020017 at their table.

After we ate some of these dishes ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020020 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020021 Sarah ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020024 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020025 sprang back to life. We all appreciated the good job our waiter ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020026 did.

Next we went to this gelato store ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020030 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020029 where the ice cream was good ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020027 including the pink stuff ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020028

From there, it was on to Montefioralle ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020032 where the church was closed but the phone booth was open ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020031 and these people had an interesting world view on their buzzer ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020033

We came home hot and tired and took a small dip ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020034 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020035 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020036 before heading down the hill ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020037 to the local pizzeria where Sarah had foccacchina ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020040 Jane had margherita ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020042 Suzanne had Caprese ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020041 Benjamin had margherita with olives ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020038 and I had vegetariano ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020039 For dessert we had tartuffo ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020043 ../../../Sabbat/Pics/07.02.00Chianti//P7020044 and headed back to rest for another day of eating and touring.
