Dinner with Dick and Fran

Along the way, we ran into Bob Cava ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1206 and Polly and Ben Straus ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1207 before Ben ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1208 Suzanne ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1209 and I ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1210 settled in for chocolate chip pancakes (Ben) ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1211 mushroom omelet (Suzanne) ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1212 and cheese omelet with egg beaters (me) ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1213 for our breakfast at the Carousel. On the way back, the men got haircuts and then we ran into Jeff and Ilana Herbst ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1214 before reaching home.

In the midst of a downpour, we parked the car ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1215 and waited for the train ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1216 ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1217 to get to the city where people seem to either take pictures ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1218 or shop for things -- nuts ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1219 and handbags ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1220 ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1221 on the street.

When we got to the Palace where Dick and Fran were staying, we were glad to see them ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1222 but then headed back onto the streets for even more handbags ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1223 before we settled down at the wrong bar at the Algonquin for these colorful drinks ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1224 and then headed to DB Bistro Moderne for dinner which began with bread ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1225 as Dick and Fran ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1226 studied the menu which Suzanne and I ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1227 took this self portrait and a few more pictures of Fran ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1228 ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1229 to get ready for this picture of the 2 of them ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1230 before the courtesy appetizer (olive tappanade) ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1231 came followed by the crab salad ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1232 which shone better in lower light ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1233 and the special tomato and goat cheese pastry ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1234 with Suzanne's scallops ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1235 my vegetable plate ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1236 Fran's veal ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1237 and cute potatoes ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1238 and Dick halibut ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1239 all nicely accompanied by this wine ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1240 even as our waiter ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1241 took a picture of others and the dessert ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1242 ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1243 was nicely presented. It's just as well that the numbers faded from the bill ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1244 but we all agreed ../../../Sabbat/2005/05.21.05DinnerWDickAndFran//IMG_1245 that it had been a lovely evening.
