It was spring break, so Jane and I hurried to the station and parked the car
and then calmed down on the train to see that her ticket was tot he wrong place and I had none (sounds like the start of a joke)
but we calmed and so could see that we did park in the right place
and once in the city met Sarah for the journey to the Lower East side with Sarah which began by passing the statue of William Seward
and then the rat in front of the place that hired scab labor
and the sombrero in front of the place where Lily works
and then we were at Yonah Shimmels
where they win prizes for their knishes
as Jane
checked out the menu
and our knish came
before we headed towards the Williamsburg bridge
and saw Katz's in the distance
as we crossed Orchard
and came upon Katz's
where the crowds
didn't get in the way of seeing the sandwiches
as we studied the menu
and then got into line
as we saw the slogan in the background
and admired the Dr. Brown's drinks
as we decided to sit at the table where Harry met Sally
and so Sarah settled in
as sandwiches
and pickles were created
along with our tab
as my attempt to get their signature sign failed
but the French fries
and drinks came
as I captured the sign and even the person who might send the salami
before Sarah brought out gifts for Jane (subway socks)
and me, a subway paperweight,
while Sarah read the subway museum brochure
which amused Jane
even as Sarah read on
and we captured the Harry met Sally sign
and the photos on the wall under the sign
and the salami sign
and noted photos of the movie's filming
before we left. Next we went to the candy store but were too stuffed to think of more food.
even though the displays were impressive.
After a phone call stop
we passed the mad scientist sign
and Seward Park (whose statue uptown we had taken earlier)
and after checking out Main Squeeze, the accordion repair shop,
and Ha'attikos, the Judaica store,
and Zelig Blumenthal who sold everything from Jerusalem
we came upon Straus Street
and Straus Square, which was really a triangle
and then found our way to a yard full of art including these busts
and a sign that seemed to be ignored
as we made our way to the courthouse
where security was tight
but we could take this sign
with Jane's foot in it
and then we traveled on further south past the avenue of the strongest
until we met this man who sold me some wonderful ties at a great price
and came upon the site of the World Trade Center
which asked us to remember (We will)
and observed the construction cranes
as we observed the Japanese business men coming out of Century 21, the 2nd most popular store in New York
and then found a place to have a diet snapple
and an orange juice
and stretch out the straw wrapper
before Ed arrived
and we began to walk uptown until the rains came so that at 14th street, I headed out to my dinner and they took the L train to Brooklyn
I went to Pure Food and Wine where I missed
and then got this sign for the collection
and then experimented in the bathroom for a while to see if I could get myself into the picture in the mirror without a flash of light (no luck)
and then realized that I could only capture the meal if I used a flash
ands since none of the food had ever been at temperatures above 118 degrees, this seemed like a worthwhile endeavor, so here are the appetizers
and my drink
and the main courses
and the desserts.
