The next event was lunch upstairs where you could order from the left or right side of the menu
and I had an omelette
that could not compete with the meal of the day before while Rob had this sandwich
Linda had this meal with 2 different kinds of potatoes
Anne had the filet
Irv had the New Yorker
Sylvia had the Caesar salad topped with salmon
and Dan had his sandwich
all well served by Aaron
the waiter. For dessert, the specialty was this swan dish
that didn't taste nearly as good as it looked though some chose to have cookies
instead.
After lunch, we repaired to their apartment where Rob
Anne
Dansyl
and Irv
posed for pictures and someone took this picture of Linda and me
managing to capture us despite lighting problems. There was more food including this plate of fresh fruit
and this plate of dried fruit.
The cookies Linda had brought
looked better once they were unwrapped
but nothing could compete with the chocolates from Australia,
not even the nuts and flakes
the typically California fare. Despite all of the fingerprints, we decided to subdivide the Australian chocolate
to make sure it tasted as good as it looked. It had a filling with a liqueur taste and a hint of cherry. And, as is always the case, pictures show a better taste than reality.
Despite the day of eating, we still had to have dinner. We observed that we hadn't been outside all day and so decided to walk to the Chinese restaurant around the corner and across the street. The menu
had many fine offerings
and after I got my beer
Larry
Janet
Dan
and Sylvia
were ready to read the offerings so that we could choose a meal. We started with Moo Shu vegetables
which the waitress prepared at our table
to yield this first one
while Dan took another picture
of her work to get the sauce and a different angle on the meal. The rest of the meal was the sizzling dish
the specialty shrimp dish (that cost twice as much)
General Ts'o chicken
bean curd with excellent mushrooms
and this accompanying hot sauce
and two kinds of rice, fried
and steamed.
On the way back we recorded the flags on the apartment next door
where the guy with the MS from Princeton lives and the name plate
and mezzuzah
on apartment 206. I was sad to get up the next morning and head to the airport for the next leg of the trip. It had been a very nice visit.
