The drive from Almeria to Granada goes through a lot of interesting
terrain in a couple of
hours of driving. Much of the drive follows the northern slopes of the
Sierra Nevada -- the
original version, not the California one. Granada is to the south
of the mountains.
These pictures show the hotel (the earth-colored tower, a renovated
old hotel next to the
Alhambra, on a hill overlooking the town) and the view from our room.
These pictures were taken as we meandered through the old part of the
town and visited the
cathedral.
In this one you can see the mountains of the Sierra Nevada in
between buildings.
And in this one the old market, which is now a maze of tourist-trap
shops, many run by moroccans.
I am not sure what Ferdinand and Isabella would make of that...:-)
This is the inside of the renovated hotel, done in the style of the
moslem architecture -- Koranic
verses (or what looks very much like them to me) and all.
And these are panoramics of the town from our window.
We arrived in Granada in the late morning and left the next morning
pretty early
on the way to Jaen, Cordoba and
Sevilla. We did not visit the
Alhambra because
these days it is not something you can do impromptu: reservations are
needed
and are hard to get on short notice.
