Our plane left in the evening, so we decided to check out of the
hotel and drop our luggage for the day at the Ueno
train station where we would later take the train to Narita airport.
On the walk from the hotel to the nearby subway station I took this
picture of the Roppongi Hills Tower, where we
had been the day before (Tokyo View is at the top of this tower).
During the subway ride I checked to see if I had forgotten how to do
the "self portrait" thing and was relieved to
find out that I had not.
After dropping the luggage, we walked around the Ameyokosho (sp?)
area: an outdoor market of produce and
clothing for the young (and senseless or taste impaired) that was
buzzing with the Saturday crowds.
Eventually we walked all the way to Akihabara (2Km or so), the
electronics marketplace.
There we had our last Tokyo meal (tempura for Barbara, unagi for me) at
a counter in the food area of the pretty
low rent "Akihabara Department Store".
After some more shopping for clothes (Uniqlo) and some electronic
gizmos, we walked back to Ueno to catch the
Skyliner to Narita Airport. Along the way Barbara found a "cochino"
(pig in Spanish) in a playground that she liked.
I knicknamed it "Hiroko Koshino" after the Japanese clothes designer
whose label graced a skirt that Barbara had
bought.
I also decided (after having avoided it before on many occasions) to
take a picture of a pachinko place -- incredibly
noisy and garish gambling places -- and its typically flowery facade.
Then I took a picture of the Skyliner and its crew getting ready to
take us away...
...a few more pictures from the observation deck of Narita airport...
...and ended the series (and filled the camera memory) with this
classy shot of the mascot of a children
oriented restaurant.
