The sailboat moored, the dock, the ramp.
A storm came through on our second day there.
Bothered by the storm, no doubt, we locked ourselves out of the
house.
I took these pictures waiting for the young woman who had the key. The
tree is an "Araucaria", the dog a very excited bulldog puppy.
By the afternoon, the storm was largely through and we motored to Puerto Meloxo
The next day we sailed for 2 hours out to Isla da Rua. The lightouse
is abandoned, but the
cell phone coverage was good, as my father proved by fielding an
incoming call.
That night Barbara and Maca joined us after driving from Madrid and
we went out
for dinner.
The next day we sailed to the Xidoiro Areoso, a sandbar with the
best shells around.
It was a gorgeous day and we had the place to ourselves.
That night we went out to dinner again and we saw this house.
Somebody decided to
use the scallop shells that are the trademark of the area as exterior
wall covering for
his house.
This is the street that goes by the front of my father's house.
The next day we motored out to another sand bar, this one called
Vionta, a bit further, just on the
mouth of the Ria de Arosa. Also a great day, also a lot of seashells
and we also had the place
to ourselves.
These are seagull chicks: Vionta is covered with seagull nests this
time of the year and you can
cause a great commotion by walking inland from the bach just about
anywhere.
The next day we sailed to a beach on Isla de Arosa, just a short way
from
the house. Another
great day, this time with fewer shells and more people around, as the
island
can be reached
by car through a bridge.
Barbara and I took a walk around La Toja and saw these flowers...
...and this wall of "piedra encajada"...
...and this view of the town of O Grove and the bridge that connects
it to La Toja,
and the pavers of the promenade of La Toja...
... and the church of La Toja, covered in scallop shells...
... and our Spanish car, that used to belong to my brother Ivan and
is photographed here for the first
time (at least by me) in front of my father's house.
More motoring around, this time in the early evening around the
southern end of the Ria de Arosa
at high tide (very little water here at low tide -- tides are ten
feet...). The background of these
pictures is the island of La Toja, the large white building the "Gran
Hotel".
We then drove to Pontevedra for dinner in the old part of town. The
church is La Peregrina.
For the last day's destination, Barbara chose Xidoiro Areoso again.
Instant replay: gorgeous day,
lots of shells, no people.
These are pictures taken at various times inside my father's house.
The house looked great.
This is a night shot of O Grove taken from the bridge into the
island of La Toja. Just testing the
limits of the new camera...
These four panoramic shots are a 360 degree view of Xidoiro Areoso:
looking East, North, West
and Soth in that order. The splash of bright red is our umbrella (base
camp).
