Our time was up in Galicia so it was time to start the drive back to Madrid. Things had been planned so that we would stop over night in Zamora along the way. This gave us some time, so we decided to make a detour to see Portugal. Borders being what they are these days, we were met on the Spanish side with this map of the Spanish side of the border and a speed limit sign and on the Portuguese side with this speed limit sign No one was nearby who might even consider stamping passports or asking what we were bringing. We drove through 20 km of twisty roads through the hills to reach the town of Braganca where the first stop was to relieve ourselves (notice how it rotates to flush) and all

have a lunch of pizza and salad at the pizza grill (entrega gratuita) while looking out at the fountain and phone booth on the town square.

After lunch, we explored the town starting with the phone booths and the fountain

and then the bank that told us the exchange rates. We looked at this street scene and picked out places for men and women to get their hair cut, stopped to mail our post cards and then headed back to Spain for the drive to Zamora where this guy greeted us at our hotel.

While we

were having drinks and bread and cheese at the café, we ran into the stork's nest atop the church near this police station

Finally, we watched the sky turn colors with the sun as we headed to our dinner including melon com jamon (2 views) and gazpacho in the restaurant where the ladies at the next table couldn't believe we would photograph our food but made it clear that we could not photograph them.
