It began with a faculty lunch for Kenneth Steiglitz (Computer Science), Wendy Warren (History), Michael Strauss (Astrophysics), Carol Porter (McGraw Center), Jeff Nunokawa (English) and David Cannadine (Humanities Council and History).
and then I ran into Kathryn on the campus as she was leaving a message for Jane on her cell phone.
Dansyl had come to New York for a wedding and so we parked the car in space 390
at Princeton Junction
and Ben
and I boarded the train
and went past the sign for Jimmy John's
and then through Edison
Metropark
Rahway
and Newark Liberty Airport
where I took the obligatory phone booth picture
and the train to plane direction
before we were at Newark Penn Station for another obligatory phone booth picture
with direction
and then to Secaucus
where I noted the book I was reading so that we could reach Penn Station New York
and begin our walk north by seeing how much carbon we were foot printing
even as we admired the lady Gaga poster
and the statue to George M. Cohan
and walked almost to the Wellington Hotel
before we arrived at the hotel where Dansyl were staying and went to their room
and then as a group walked on
seeing the Wellington once more
but stopping at the stage deli
where we admired the menu
as Dansyl
Jane
me
and Ben tried to sort out the food
as these group photos of our side of the table were taken
and then Ben posed
as the lentil soup
and pickles arrived
and before long we were given our choice of mustards
as major sandwich creations arrived
along with an empty plate
for dividing this sandwich
as I admired my blintzes
and sauce
and the sandwich was divided
as another half sandwich emerged
and I made my way through the blintzes
until the check arrived
and we walked towards central park
stopping to record a menu
as Ben climbed over cliffs
and then returned
to where we were sitting
so that we could leave the park to visit the statue of Jose Marti
about whom great things
including his name were recorded.
We noted another hot dog stand's menu
with Jose guarding us
as Syl and Jane sorted out the pashmina they wanted to buy.
Next, we went to Trump Tower at a time when The Donald was still thinking of running for president
and recorded his fountains before calling it a day and taking the train back.
A few days later, I hosted lunch for Katja Guenther (History), Kathryn Gin (Religion), Claudia Johnson (English), Amanda Irwin Wilkins (Writing Program) Peter Ramadge (Electrical Engineering) and Christopher Herzog (Physics).
