It continued to be a lazy summer and one day in August soon after Jane returned from Spain, Jane, Ben and I went for a walk and then we left Ben with Sam to explore.

The next day, I had lunch with James Steward, the new director of the PU Art Museum

and a few days later, Elaine Richards of HR had to verify that my family members were related to me as I said they were.

Back at the home front, Charles Redmond Sneath '09 among others came to have a dinner of pasta salad Caprese salad and this unidentified dish with Jane. >p> A few days later, Jane and Justin went for a walk as did Suzanne and I.

Back in the office for a final day before departure, I welcomed Michael Koortbojian to campus and then came home to a dinner made by Ryan Morrill '10 who had been staying with us.

This ended the work portion of my summer, such as it was, and so we set off the next day for Potomac, Maryland to see the new babies. We stopped at Champps in Columbia (because we liked the way it was spelled) and Suzanne Jane and Ben were there but there were retakes of Suzanne first with an interlude of me and then Suzanne again the then of Ben before we all were served out burgers of various sorts. We stopped at L L Bean in that mall and Suzanne tried on a hat and thought better. I tried on this hat and made it my beach wear, for better or worse.

Our next stop was at Betsy's house where we were greeted by Emma and Jack as Ben and Jane posed with Betsy and Emma and Jack did and showed us many aspects of their lives

before we went upstairs to see the new ones and for reference, Suzanne is holding Tess and !! is holding Kate which is the guide for the rest of the pictures. as we played pass the babies though Suzanne seemed to have the lion's share of holds even when Jane joined

and then Suzanne and Betsy held a baby apiece as Jack and Emma came in to see their siblings and a play period evolved

before we went outside to see Emma ride her bike and Jack get ready to ride his as Ben was shielded from the sun and the double stroller was assembled for the babies walk through the neighborhood in the sweltering heat.

Back from the walk, books were read to Emma and Jack

cheese and crackers were served and as the book reading died down everyone admired the little ones as they did the things that babies do including putting things in their mouths crawling and bouncing around

playing with remote controls and navigating the territory

before Emma returned and posed with Jane as Jack played to be joined by his sister and then Jack posed with Tess and then Emma, Tess and Jack posed before we left to head to our hotel where we met Syl and Larry and eventually headed to dinner where Jane and Larry sat together as did Suzanne and Betsy and Syl, me and Ben

The next morning we went back to Potomac (miraculously, I took no photos of the hotel room which I now regret) where breakfast was served as Larry and Syl greeted the older children and Jack Syl Jane Larry Emma Ben and Matt marveled at the self portraits I could take in face on and profiles views as the fruit salad was served.

The babies appeared with Suzanne and Betsy (Tess in pink, Kate in blue) and moved to Larry

back to Matt (after a brief pass off to Suzanne) and to Larry as Suzanne held on and the two of us posed with the babies while Larry enjoyed Jack's toy and Syl sang great-grandmotherly songs with a Jack interruption before she resumed as this scene emerged before more baby greeting occurred.

Next there were various groupings of adult, older children, and babies

before the baby cart came out and Matt did his baby thing.

Unbeknownst to us, a different drama was unfolding in the basement where Ben and Jane captured Jack and Emma as Jack began to climb and Emma bounced and soon Jack was down up and down from the high window soon to be joined by Emma as they both climbed up prepared for the jump and then took off even as they told us that they were not allowed to do this. The scene emerging upstairs evolved

until people began to assemble for a collection of family photos.
