Ben and I were going to San Diego for a few days but before we went I needed to sign Chris Paxson on as the new chair of economics and take her picture.
That mission accomplished, we made our way to the airport, caught our flight and woke up the next morning in California ready for breakfast with an emphasis on High Fiber
as the food was assembled
and accompanied by prunes
from this container
as Ben decided that his finger would best represent him
though I managed to get his hair
and his profile
before taking this self portrait
and using these materials
but not these
to accomplish this breakfast
and then to celebrate our clean plates with Fig Newtons
and Israeli Tea biscuits
which made Syl
Dan
and Ben happy
as we admired the lights
before we came back to a lunch of soup
vegetarian rice bowl
and the ever rhyming Mintz's Blintzes
not to mention from the frig
cheeses
and varieties of low calorie colas
which Ben studied as though he was going to use them in the shell game
before the table was readied
and Ben (in fairly incognito fashion)
Syl
and Dan
admired my blintz
before the brownies
pear sections
and Japanese candies
where it took a few bad tries
before the back of the package explained the situation
but still I tried one
before we got in our car
admired the license plate
and made our way to Fry's to explore computer parts.
and then back at home had some chocolate
and some gorp while playing Ohell.
The next day began with a trip to The Pancake House
where the menu
was studied by Ben
Dan
and me and Syl in this self portrait against a back lighting situation
and as we studied the menu
coffee saucers
and filled cups
gave way to condiments
to be put on my Dutch Baby
as Ben had his pigs in a blanket
which raised his spirits
as Dan
had his pecan pancake
and the waitress was nice enough to take this group picture again against back lighting
before Ben
took this picture
and we settled the check
before heading off to CostCo
where these were the hours
before we located the Pub Mix
and explored the store
and pharmacy
noting some rules
and skipping this exit lane.
Back at their apartment, we noted the beautiful lights in the social room
as Ben carried the package up
and settled
and we looked at the chicken
and vegetables
that would accompany the Pub Mix
and cheddar cheese
as Ben pondered the meal
and cheese was organized

Next we went on an excursion to the Salk Institute in La Jolla where the structures were designed by Louis Kahn
and hang gliders were in the background over the sea
as we explored the area
and Janet pointed out the holes in the walls
as I recorded the structure
and posed by the spouting fountain
as we caught views of the locked gates
and back to the hang gliders
and the people who came to see them
then the fountains
and the architecture
outside the labs
and the drainage system
and the warning sign outside the cafeteria
before we recorded more of the architecture
