We had had a leisurely day and were ready for a hiking challenge, so we went to the dock at Jenny Lake and looked at the trail guide
to consider our options
before going to the dock to get on a boat
where this was the view on the boat
and these were the views ahead
before we came ashore and got directions
as well as distances after the walk had begun.
Suzanne was trailing
as we caught our first views of the water below hidden falls
and then we found our way
to the falls themselves
where the crowds were enjoying the view
before Ben posed in front of the falls
before we made our way up the steep hill to Inspiration Point
where the views were beautiful (if not inspiring)
and even the chipmunks enjoyed the scenery
as Suzanne made her way to the point
and against the backdrop of this scenery
Ben took these pictures of me

and the scenery
while I sat
and the point
and then looked out to inspiration
before we admired this tree
and headed on to the next trail marker which led the way where we were going
and where we would return.
We also felt that this sign would make for a more pleasant walk
as we came across our first running water
where Suzanne joined us
and we then moved on to the next water (each more beautiful than the one before and this one quite beautiful)
and admired the views
when the people we had met on the trail a few days earlier reappeared still having not finished the story they were telling
but this didn't prevent us from enjoying the scenery
and the trail ahead
as Suzanne joined us
and Ben had his lunch at our next stop
as did Suzanne but we tried to keep it away from the bugs who were becoming more plentiful as we marched on
possibly because they liked these views as well.
Soon, I could drop my pack
and take pictures of the signs that said we had made it to our destination
and Ben arrived for some more victory pictures
as we looked at the road (not taken) ahead
and the stream to the side
before another victory picture of Ben
and then he took these pictures of Suzanne and David
and we started down the trail back to Jenny Lake determined to take the best possible wild flower pictures and so here they are
|
interrupted by the occasional scenery picture
before going back to wildflowers
|
and spectacular scenery
and more wildflowers
|
and then scenery that made for possibly the prettiest point on the trail
|
and more wildflowers
|
and the trail ahead
before Ben went into his meditative poses
before Suzanne came down the trail
and we found the sign that told us the end was very much in sight
but for a few more wildflower pictures
|
to the bottom of the hill and a truly short walk
to the boat dock where we boarded the boat back
to the trail map that had started us. The very observant viewer will notice that the math of the signs doesn't quite add up. We also noticed that in some places a mile was longer than it was in others (even on level ground). As a result, it is hard to have an exact measure of how far we went. We have decided to declare the trail to have been 9 miles long (round trip).
As a result of the long hike, Ben got a drink and ice cream
Suzanne got iced tea
and this iced tea
was what made me happier in this self portrait.
On the way back along the (appropriately named) Moose-Wilson Road, we came across a moose and took many pictures to prove it
|
and at our local store, I purchased a few of these beers to replenish the fluids I had lost.
For dinner, we went to the Alpenhof
where Suzanne toasted our successful walk with a gin and tonic
while Ben had his water and pondered the menu
and the flowers on the table
that had to be moved for the dipables
with our fondue
which was accompanied by white wine
as Ben kept changing his pose
as I took this self portrait
and then managed to capture Ben
as we completed the fondue
and the pot was removed
to make room for this salad with Wyomatoes
and this Caesar salad
followed by Suzanne's Idaho trout
and the linguine that Ben and I split.
After admiring the relishes on Suzanne's plate, we called it a day of happy hiking and went to sleep.
