The next day, we woke up on Santorini feeling very relaxed. Ben expressed our exuberance before siting with Suzanne as I captured pictures of the room the kids stayed in and the ugly structure the neighbor below had erected. Margaret and Clayton were ready to go as were the others so we headed to the site of the ruins of the city of Akrotiri where Professor Doumas is leading a dig. Here was the outside structure that we could not see because of a fallen roof but after some orientation and a view of the remains of the mountain we were welcomed into the laboratory where pottery is reconstructed

and as Dimitri and Christos discussed things and the rest of us watched we viewed a hypothetical view of the house where ceremonies were held and then made our way to see the reconstruction of the wall paintings where all of the pieces make for various versions of the world's largest jigsaw puzzle

Next we went to the library where Peter climbed up to get a book from the balcony as we saw the plaster mold of a bed (from way back when) and then observed a wall painting and a plaster mold of a tree and another bed before focusing on the remarkable wall paintings including the special one for which we thanked Dimitri, Christos and Alexander. We went outside where Mary and Sarah posed as did Suzanne and Sarah, Jane, Suzanne and Ben in interesting filtered light after which we saw a pomegranate tree bearing fruit from close far and closer and the proposed entrance to the visitors center complete with signage and information. After some pictures of the entire group, we were off to lunch where Suzanne and Dimitri posed as the group at the other end of the table and Clayton at ours watched the food come. There was Greek salad tsatsiki more salad fava bean dishes various fishes and a very tasty tomato dish before one fish head was shared with the cat

and the other worked on by Dimitri. After dessert we made our way to the sea nearby where Ben, Sarah and Suzanne swam away as did Clayton and Margaret and as the swimming continued Dimitri and Clayton chatted on the shore as Sarah gathered stones Jane Ben and Suzanne swam and I took pictures of the beach (with its black sand). While the activities continued I captured some pictures of caustics in the sea as Suzanne and Ben continued to swim

Jane emerged as did Sarah and Suzanne gathered a few stones as Ben caught his last weak waves while these were the rocks gathered by Sarah

Back at the Nomikos house, our time was running out, so Jane decided to take some panoramas of the pool and outdoor dining area

and the sea and the view down

before we set off down the path overlooking the city to the steps from which more views were recorded

before we came to the Nomikos museum where we saw their copies of the wall paintings reproduced by a special process as Jane posed with the boy with his fish and then went off to take some pictures and related the reconstructed model of the Minoan ship to the wall painting about it.

After recording the details of the process by which the reproductions were made we headed back up to the sunset where Suzanne Suzanne and Sarah and David and Sarah posed

as Jane and Ben read and Peter and Shirley and Clayton and Margaret made their way back up and in the wonderful view we recorded Clayton and the two Peters before Margaret took these pictures of our whole family as Clayton and Peter surveyed the views and Clayton and the 2 Peters admired the sunset before Shirley and Peter and Dimitri posed for Margaret and Mary and Ben as Mary and Peter chatted as did Dimitri and Peter then Peter and Mary and Peter and Dolla got the crew -- Peter (Sr.), Shirley, Dolla, Peter (Jr.) and Dolla together for some pictures as the others watched (And took the occasional picture) as the group dissembled the Nomikos three posed and then Clayton and Margaret posed with Peter as Dolla posed with Suzanne and then after Margaret, Peter and Clayton posed we said good bye to the beautiful island and headed back to civilization.
