It was Karen Mink's last day in the office, so we toasted her (or maybe she toasted us) with one glass and then two but no shots and beer. Then, it being the night of the first seder, we brought the fruit platter to the Kramers where the Kramer men showed their unending love of the kiwi as our family and Seva watched and hoped that I could do a better self portrait which I did as Ben showed his electricity project and answered questions from Peter.

Sarah played the wicked role at the seder and then we caught the chocolate seder plate and various views of the fruit plate Ben made to compliment the kiwi we had already seen. After a few false starts we were ready to experiment on this 10 dollar bill with Peter's elegant pen that let me pretend to be Larry Summers and memorialized our 3rd cup of win so that Pesach could be suitably celebrated.

On Wednesday (April 7) I met with Margaret Miller Andrew Gossen and Leslie Jennings from the alumni office to discuss their proposed alumni travel program. ON the way home, I met Vivek's new (actually not so new) baby and Aravind and his friend who were out for a jog. Then, on Thursday, I had a visit from Val Smith and another from Daniel Sieworek before Phillip Pettit came by. In the afternoon, the Schmidt's came and their daughter and her friend (who happens to be Don Dixon's daughter) posed as Wendy took their picture before I got pictures of the 3 Schmidts the four Californians and the 2 Schmidts and then a self portrait to complete the collection.

On Friday, we celebrated that our new E-Z Pass worked as we made our way through this gate to park the car and walk the lot past the trains and the obligatory phone booth picture until we could enter the train station with its imagined and real trains and get our tickets to wait in line while walking past the vendors outside the station through a self portrait a picture of the gang and a not too bad profile before the rules of security became clear and we waited to clear the line to get to the boat with tickets that would let us board and accompany the 152 people from the Y in New Hampshire on the crowded boat that seemed to distress Ben as I looked to the distance but the family didn't move as we got closer and could see the Lady who came even closer until we disembarked at the sign and took the requisite photos apart and together at the Ellis Island sign. Once inside, we bought tickets from this man for a play that didn't allow photography and then headed to the over priced, under quality cafeteria where the servers sold us this food and the pigeons waited to see what we would leave.

Next we rented headphones and made our ways past the suitcases to march eventually to the big hall and pace and look at the ceiling and head to the windows where we could look at the hospital and the rest of the island and the city beyond before getting tot he menu in many languages and pausing to look below and above before seeing the tight cots and the sinks used by those who stayed.

I particularly liked these posters

of songs in many languages they had in the exhibit on immigration. As our tour wound up we headed for the gift shop and then waited outside as Ben took a few pictures of the other buildings the grass and a cherry bomb Suzanne and our gift bag before the boat pulled all the way in and we headed back tot he line and took many pictures as we waited to board.

Once on board, there was the lady and us and the lady and us and the lady and the skyline and more pictures of the lady interrupted by us and then the lady

as we got closer and eventually docked at Liberty Island where we received a phone call and I chatted as Ben watched me chat further and Ben watched and then went incognito as I finished but Suzanne talked as the boat sailed on and Ben could watch as the phone call was finished and we could head to our next destination.

Next we stopped to buy these shoes from this man as we got ready for dinner but had to take this collection sign at the restaurant where my salad and pasta sans flash accompanied Ben's spaghetti and meatballs and Suzanne's fish and Suzanne and Ben were more enthusiastic than it seems about the dessert that came.

The next day, we went to Waterfront Park where Ben Suzanne and I got our seats and then went to get food as the first pitches were thrown and the umpires caucused so that the game could happen after which we visited the more permanent fans and Ben then Ben and I posed with them as the stadium beckoned Suzanne to join me to salute them.

On our way home, we stopped at this air station and Ben showed off his Chase hand and Yankees basketball as I bought my air for 50 cents so that we could venture forward to the mall where Ben looked down on this booth as we waited for Suzanne to emerge from Macy's so that we could overlook this booth before going to the game store and the video store where our purchases were made and we looked down before Ben and Suzanne decided that we could head home. Sunday morning, Ben put on his new shirt from Old Navy which made him able to move faster than the camera but Suzanne posed and we captured this picture of spring and these pictures of the Easter egg hunt at Trinity before marching past the wedding at the Methodist church on our way to the carousel where Suzanne and Ben enjoyed their meal though we wished that Zorba and his wife had kept one of their restaurants open for us.
