Our bags were packed

including the backpacks so we looked out the back screen at the deer while waiting for our driver to arrive to take us to JFK. The ride was pleasant enough until we realized we might miss the plane. But, alas thanks to some serious dashing through airports, we got on the plane and Sarah and Jane and Ben and Suzanne settled in much to the amusement of this gentleman who probably didn't realize that the drink and food could be quite so bad.

On the other end, we crowded into the back of the rental courtesy van until we got to La Jolla where Jane summarized our mood as Dansyl appeared and served some food to the assembled masses

none of whom could quite stay awake.

Monday morning, I was up bright and early for the breakfast spread as Sylvia modeled her new scarves before we got in the car for the trip to Denny's where Janet and Larry magically appeared and we rejected this lunch place for this one where these kind people got us going with drinks as their helper emerged to make sandwiches as I headed for this room where they had this sign for the collection. Back at the cars, Larry and Sarah waited and posed as Jane and then Benjamin joined while Janet went looking for Suzanne so we could go to this beach and eat our lunches before heading down for the group picture (sans Janet). Later, Suzanne and Ben gathered by water's edge so that Benjamin could bring back this seaweed and pose before we headed to the ice cream stand to order from the cowabunga menu and then stop at the book store before beginning the trip south. We missed our picture of roadside California as we headed towards dinner.

Once the table was set Grandma's famous meatballs and soup were served to the amusement of Dan and Jane though this salad didn't do much for Ben though the other dishes kept Sarah going as my plate evolved and Sylvia and Suzanne enjoyed dessert before we went to the playground with the protected soda machine and explored.
