It was time to get to the outside world and see the characters who make it great (and enjoy wearing PU hats).

I began by bringing my rental car with this license plate to the garage at UW and made my way to Ed Lazowska's office. We went for a walk around the campus and met his executive VP who seemed to be sweating about over runs in their new building which didn't seem to be over-running to me though I was glad we didn't have to go onto the walkways in the old EE building.

After this elegant lunch Ed posed with the hat and then with the father of our country after whom the university was named. And the state for that matter.

For some reason, I was asleep at the switch and so missed the opportunity to catch Rich Tong in his new hat. That will have to wait for the next trip. Maybe I was thinking about this wonderful neon sign that we would pass on the way to dinner. My salad looked better than this and Jane's salad looked exactly like this. We each had the same main course but the difference between my photo and hers can be attributed either to the fork in the picture or maybe to the angle at which the flash executed.

The next day, Chris Larsen came to watch me eat this breakfast as Jane watched and ate her fruit.

After a picture of the Mariners shop across the street and a few street scenes and some flags pictures reminding us that it was 9/11, it was time to head to the headquarters of Amazon.com where this woman was nice enough to give us badges so that we could go see Jeff Some camera manipulations led to these multiple pictures of me with the company founder then the president then the CEO then the chairman and finally the inspirational leader. Jane posed with Elizabeth her counterpart in the organization. After driving to Avis rental return at SeaTac and getting a receipt from this gentleman we were off to San Jose.

Our first stop was to see Phil Goldman who eased into the frame as he told us all about his new endeavor. We left him for dinner with the Warmenhovens though Charmaine being not a hat person held her hat for the photos. After one last stop we were ready for the long ride back to the hotel so that we could debrief on the day.

The next morning, Jane posed at Buck's to allow me to check my camera for the picture of my breakfast and the breakfast of Eric Schmidt who seems delighted with his job situation.

My work done, I headed to the international headquarters of Ductus where the friendly employees were my next hat picture. After some drink I could aim the camera better and so was ready for falafel lunch with Jacobo before we headed to the shoreline to watch the pelicans and see the bigger picture. Jacobo returned me to Jane who was happy to see us back in time to capture one last hat picture before the journey was done.

I guess this is the picture that summarizes the Princeton alum part of the trip.
