It was the last real weekend of summer and we decided to go to Ligonier
to see the Gespasses and the other sites there. We got a slightly late start
but desperately needed gas
even at these prices
and were willing to obey this sign
and get help from this woman
who was very slow at getting us serviced.
Then we drove to Ligonier knowing that we had already recorded these
sites of the Pennsylvania turnpike .
The next day, we went to Fort Ligonier where we were greeted with this howitzer
and the field piece
that Benjamin showed us.
We saw the new buildings -- the smoke house
hospital
and silversmith shop
that are not yet open for visiting. Then we admired the fort
and its protecting cannons
and noticed that Suzanne was color coordinated
thanks to the bad presentation of color by the camera.
The big cannon
impressed us all
as we made our way to the mess hall
where some of the food
looked less appetizing than these
conglomerations. The butler
did well at maintaining the quarters
making Suzanne
happy as we made our way past the powder
to the armory
where the smith
was hard at work. Next we went to the Forbes hut
where the poor general
had written his last will
and would never enjoy his dinner.
At the hospital
we watched them tend to this man
and try to repair this person's
missing limb. All this excitement made Suzanne hungry
so we headed past the food
to the commissary
where she felt better.
Next we went to the officer's quarters
where George Washington
was greeted by Montgomery and Bouquet
in an image more real than this picture
but perhaps not as real as this picture
of General Wolfe's last stand.
The next day, Benjamin made a tea party
for the teddy bears
the stuffed animal
and the pound puppy.
We said good bye to all of them
and hit the road
where we followed these motorcycles for awhile
before finding this gas station (note the price)
and waited behind these cars
as Suzanne
speculated on the price.
The last highlight of the trip was this trailer pulling a hansom
past these people going back to college
as the horse trailer
tried to pass the college bound car.
