I was born on February 29, 1948 in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania .
I went to elementary school at the John Minadeo Elementary School finishing in 1960. I went to high school at Taylor Allderdice High School and graduated in 1966 . During this time, I lived on Beechwood Boulevard.
Then I moved to Cambridge , Massachusetts receiving BS degrees from MIT in 1970 , an MS in 1971 , and a PhD in Applied Mathematics in 1973 , from Harvard University .
I then spent 5 formative years teaching at Yale University in New Haven , Connecticut. I lived first in Cromwell and later in New Haven.
In 1978 I left New Haven and moved to Tucson , Arizona where I taught at the University of Arizona.
I moved to Princeton , New Jersey in 1981 and have lived here ever since.
I am a professor in the Department of Computer Science at Princeton University. I am currently serving as Department Chair.

My personal life revolves around my family including my wife Suzanne daughters Sarah and Jane and son Benjamin. My daughters have become involved with the web on their own through Sarah's creativity and Jane's poetry .
I also have hobbies and am a vegetarian As with all men approaching midlife crisis my secret desire is to be a star basketball player .
